My grandmother celebrated her anniversary EVERY year in Hawaii. Honolulu was her favorite. When I found out my friend was going to celebrate her mom’s birthday, I tagged along. I liked Hawaii. I only thought about my grandma as I spent time in the beautiful sunny city. My favorite part is when the Hawaiian women greet you everywhere you go–“aloha”! My first evening in Hawaii was well deserved as I had gotten off of an 11-hour flight from New York City. My friends all wanted to begin the birthday celebrations with drinks–of course. I’m not sure in the long run if that was a good idea because later I ended up with a bunch of photos of a lopsided sunset. I don’t even remember all of what happened that evening. But I do remember, the sunset being marvelous!
…Let me not forget, the views from our hotel were also spectacular! Look at them clouds.. And you can see a peak of Diamond Head…
I woke up the next morning feeling pretty sick. But I got up anyway. I went back to the beach solo. The palm trees gave me life…seriously!
…I got another chance to see Diamond Head in all its glory.
Then I came across this awesome tree. Look at that trunk though!!!
…and some wild life.
Later that day, we all decided to go to a luau. It was quite interesting. On the way there, I saw an amazing rainbow in the sky. When we finally reached the luau there was lots of dancing and they even roasted a pig in the ground! Unfortunately I didn’t have the appetite to eat it afterwards otherwise, I’d let you know how it tasted!
Pig Roasting…
The following day, I went to the Pineapple Fields. My grandma begged me to go see the Pineapples. I found it interesting because for one, I didn’t know pineapples were pink at first and second, I didn’t know they grew in a field. See…that’s why you need to travel. You learn something!
After I left the Pineapple fields I went to another beach pretty far away from the city center. I took a bus to get there and the ride was interesting. This was the opportunity I had to really get to experience life in Hawaii by looking at the locals board the bus with their children and get off to go home or the store or where ever. It was really interesting. But the last stop on the bus was the beach! It was different than the beach by our hotel–it was much more, aggressive.
That was the end of my Hawaiian escape!
